RAIL MANUFACTURERS AND THE RAILDEX GUIDANCE DOCUMENT
Pennant has a proud history of supplying specialized technical services and solutions for complex data specifications, including Raildex. Our R4i software suite allows content to be authored, managed and output to an Interactive Technical Publication, as per the Raildex Guidance Document.
Raildex, built on the underlying framework of international Integrated Product Support specifications, provides a standardized exchange of maintenance documentation between vendors, manufacturers and end users within the rail industry.
When looking at the aerospace industry there is a long history of standardization for the documentation. The rail industry is looking to build on this standardization through the use of global specifications, hence the Raildex Guidance Document Business Rules Analysis was documented. This Guidance Document was prepared jointly by the working group based out of France, and those involved were Alstom Transport, Bombardier (Rail Division), and SNCF (Société nationale des chemins de fer français), “French National Railway Company”.
The Raildex Guidance Document was published in 2014 and refers to the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe – ASD S1000D Issue 4.1 specification and specifically refers to the following v4.1 schemas:
- Descriptive
- Procedural
- IPD
- BREX
In addition to the above schemas, Raildex also support the concept of applicability and the use of the Applicability, Product and Content Cross Reference Table content. Raildex does not currently have a website that can be referenced for additional information, or to contact working group members.
The RailDex working group presented at the S1000D Conference in Vienna in September 2013.
