Anzac Day is observed on April 25 each year. Originally Anzac Day was to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli during the First World War. Today the meaning of Anzac Day includes the remembrance of all Australians killed in military operations.
Due to the present COVID-19 lockdowns and in accordance with Government and World Health Organisation recommendations, sadly all dawn services and gatherings have been cancelled.
However, we are all encouraged to still pay tribute to our Anzac’s on this important day, ensuring it is in a socially responsible manner.
At 5:45am on Saturday April 25, 2020 the ADG, OneStrand and wider Pennant team will light up the dawn with poppy-themed candle jars and remember our Veterans, by standing in our driveways and observing a one-minute silence in remembrance of those very brave men and women.
Just imagine everyone in every street in their driveways, listening to the last post at the same time.
What a wonderful testament to our society!
Let’s all come together, united by the same cause and show support for our heroic armed service members. They made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives, so that today we can live in freedom and enjoy the life that we have all grown accustomed to.
Although admired as ‘The Lucky Country’ from afar, we definitely live in strange and unprecedented times due to the COVID-19 virus. One thing I am sure of, alarm clocks will still be set early as we all stand as one this Anzac Day. It would be un-Australian not to!
